479th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, R.A.

Formed on 19th February 1942 from the fourth troops of the 299th, 300th and 192nd L.A.A. Batteries of the 96th and 71st L.A.A. Regiments, R.A., the 479th L.A.A. Battery, R.A. was regimented with the 96th L.A.A. Regiment, R.A.[1]

The Battery sailed to East Africa with the Regiment on board the troopship Warwick Castle, leaving Glasgow on 26th May 1942 and disembarked at Mombasa on 16th July.[2]

The 238th L.A.A. Battery, R.A. relieved the 479th L.A.A. Battery, R.A., on 13th March 1943 and the 479th Battery moved to site H1 for cadre training.[3] 

The 479th L.A.A. Battery, R.A. was disbanded in Kenya with effect 5th March 1943.
