3rd Coast Battery, West African Artillery
The nucleus of the 3rd Coast Battery, W.A.A. was gathered at Bathurst by 25th July 1941.[1]
(Note: a 3rd Coast Battery, W.A.A. had been formed or had been intended to form at Takoradi, but on 4th July 1941, this was renamed as the 6th Coast Battery, W.A.A.)
The 3rd Coast Battery manned a single 12-pounder and a coast defence searchlight (C.A.S.L.) at the Point gun site, Bathurst.[2]
The 3rd Coast Battery was evacuated on 16th June 1943 and is thought to have disbanded by 1st October (being deleted from the H.Q. Gambia Area location statement on 11th October 1943). [3]
