African Gunners of World War 2

8th Coast Battery, West African Artillery

The 8th Coast Battery, W.A.A. appears to have been formed at Takoradi in mid-1943.  It was regimented with the 3rd Coast Regiment, W.A.A.[1]

The 8th Coast Battery is first mentioned in the war diaries in November 1943, when it undertook practice firing with 4.5-inch guns.[2]

The 8th Coast Battery remained as part of the 3rd Coast Regiment at least until 31st August 1944, when the war diary ends.[3]
