307th (East Africa) Field Regiment, E.A.A.
The Regimental H.Q. of the 307th (E.A.) Field Regiment, E.A.A. opened at Gilgil on 20th January 1944. Regimented were the 66th, 67th and 68th (E.A.) Field Batteries. The Regiment was under the command of H.Q. West Sub Area.[1]
Following reorganisation of the command structure, the Regiment came under the command of the H.Q. Kenanda Sub Area from 24th July 1944. Elements of the Regiment joined the 105th (E.A.) Anti-Tank Regiment in taking part in Exercise ‘John Peel’ between 9th and 25th July 1944. The Regiment moved to Naivasha on 5th September. On 1st October, the Regiment moved to a new war establishment [details unknown]. On 1st December 1944, the 66th Battery moved to Nanyuki to replace the 67th Battery on exercise with the 27th (Northern Rhodesia) Infantry Brigade. The 66th Battery returned to Naivasha on 4th December.[2]
Training and practice firing continued into 1945. The Regiment took part in Exercise ‘Chindwin’ at Nanyuki from 4th April 1945, returning to Naivasha on 4th May. The Regiment went to Nairobi on 12th August for the V-J Parade, returning to Naivasha on 19th August.[3]
In September 1945, the Commanding Officer was Lt. Colonel E.H.A. Jackson, who was posted to S.E.A.C. on 8th September and relinquished command of the Regiment on 20th September. Lt. Colonel P.H.J. Tuck succeeded him as Commanding Officer.[4]
The Regiment concentrated at Lolmontoni on 1st September 1945 for Exercise ‘Kampat’ with the 27th (Northern Rhodesia) Infantry Brigade. The Regiment returned to Naivasha on 12th September.[5]
The Regiment was at Naivasha on 28th January 1946. It was there on 11th March when nine British Other Ranks were posted to the Regiment.[6]
